Volunteer

There are many to you can help Fairview Gardens and learn about farming yourself!  From a two hour project to a 8 hour weekly internship, we have just the right volunteer position for you!

School Garden Volunteer

We designated a parcel of land for students to learn and farm at Fairview Gardens. We have growing space, seeds, plants and tools to host a classroom and/or school that requires help from volunteers to flourish.  Our school garden space contains space for your school as well as communal space to be shared with other schools.  Try your hand at Tilling, Planting, Irrigation, Weeding, and Harvesting. 

Full Share CSA Volunteers- 4 positions available

Our CSA is expanding we are seeking four people to help coordinate our distribution days from March to November.  In exchange for your time and effort you will receive a large, full season share.  This works out to be about 130 total hours for the season in exchange for a share worth $1260.

Requirements:

Be available on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons from 12 noon - 4:00 or 3:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Lift produce boxes;

Make a pleasing display; restock when needed

Answer produce related questions;

Copy newsletters;

Help conduct dot surveys; Friendly and nice to members;

Be available by e-mail to coordinate with other volunteer members and the Marketing Coordinator earlier in the week.

Goat Herder

Our small herd of three is pregnant and will deliver in April/May.  We are looking for a few dedicated individuals to help milk, make cheese and care for the nannies and the kids.

Chicken Whisperer

Our sweet flock of hens are a real treat to be around.  Help collect eggs, feed and water, coddle and hold the hens to keep them less “chicken”, move the rotating coop, and keep it clean.

Super Weeder!!

Weeds happen!  Help keep down the big ones in this rewarding position.  Monitor the fields closely and help the crops be successful by mitigating the faster growing weeds like Malva, yellow star thistle and more.

Worms ate my Lunch Steward

Vermiculture, or worm farming, is an important part of our composting process.  We use the castings from the worms for compost tea and for our greenhouse starts. Come and help us harvest the worm castings and make tea; you’ll learn about worms and have the opportunity to play in the dirt. 

Farm-to-School Teacher

Our farm-to-school program is growing in popularity with the local schools.  From time to time we need help with large groups on the farm.  Training is provided; experienced

facilitators only please. 

Summer Camp Counselors in Training (CIT)

Counselors in Training assist the camp coordinator with Summer Farm Days camp that takes place on an organic farm from 9-4 each day, June -August.  CIT's develop the skills needed to excel as camp counselor in the future while earning volunteer hours for high school graduation.  In addition, they learn

Qualifications:

  • Completed 9th grade and at least 14 years of age A or B grade average for current school year Good health
  • Experience working with children

Office Hand

Behind every great farm, there lies an office… Help keep us organized in our yurt.  Organize files, binders and library. Transfer Quark files to PDF for archive. Enter information in our database. Assist with general office tasks as needed: mailings and printings.  Research and write information for articles for our newsletter, local newspapers, brochures, handouts, and guides.

Graphic Designer & Public Relations Intern

Create or re-design brochures and annual reports for the farm. Create Posters or flyers for special events and conferences.Design program or project logos.

Qualifications: Working knowledge of PageMaker, In Design, and Photoshop. Background in graphic design would help.
